Thank God for Backups!

Thursday, 22 October 2009 12:56

Yesterday, I managed to break our website. I was doing some fancy stuff...testing something that we will be rolling into the websites we do for our Clients...and I managed to break the website. Our pages weren't loading.

Thankfully, before I did this pioneering work, I made a back-up. We've tested our website back-up and restore plans before, but today was the first time I've had to do a complete website restore for real!

Before I did the restore, I took more back-ups. I double checked everything. I was nervous about overwriting my whole website with a restore I only had theoretical confidence in.

I spent about 2 hours getting ready for the restore. The actual restore itself took about 15 minutes. And it worked like a charm!

Thank God for back-ups!

Piggybank Sponsors SEA Conference

Wednesday, 13 May 2009 00:00

sea-conf-may-09Scott & Jen attended the 2009 SEA Conference at Geneva Park near Orillia. This year's theme was "Thriving in Tough Times".

It was wonderful to be with so many start-up Entrepreneurs, hearing their stories of taking the leap into self employment. We remember back to the thrilling and scary times when we took the plunge back in 1996.

It's encouraging to see that despite the doom & gloom talk about recession on the news, there are many industrious individuals taking responsibility for their own economic future. We also saw, first hand, just how energetic and supportive the SEA team is and we want to thank Cathy Greer and Gary Lyon for extending us an invitation to sponsor such a positive event.

Well done!

Barrie Chamber Presentation: Web Marketing for Small Business

Thursday, 08 January 2009 00:00

On January 8, 2009, I was the keynote speaker for the Barrie Chamber of Commerce's Breakfast Meeting. It was a 1/2 hour presentation on how to use web marketing to build local small business. Hands on and practical, it was a great topic to kick off a New Year with economic challenges in the airwaves.
